    Praised by Broadway World as a “compelling actor” with a “rich and powerful bass voice,” James Harrington returned to the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice program in 2017, where he covers Raimondo in their production of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR. 
    
    The 2017-18 season sees him making role and company debuts as Sarastro in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE (Opera in the Heights) and Dottore Grenvil in LA TRAVIATA (St. Petersburg Opera). The 2016-17 season saw his debut at Portland Opera as bass soloist in SONGS OF LOVE AND WAR, a new production of staged Monteverdi madrigals created by director Christopher Mattaliano. As an Apprentice Singer at Santa Fe Opera in 2016, he sang the roles of Billy Jackrabbit in LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST and Diener 4 in CAPRICCIO, and covered Count Capulet in ROMÉO ET JULIETTE and Major-Domo in CAPRICCIO. Earlier in the 2015-16 season, he sang Sergeant Meryll in THE YEOMEN OF THE GUARD at Winter Opera St. Louis, and returned to Florida State University to perform Seneca in L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA, Adam in Haydn’s THE CREATION, Pooh-Bah in THE MIKADO, and Bass Soloist in Schubert's MASS IN E-FLAT MAJOR.
    
    In 2014-15, he was Jigger Craigin in CAROUSEL and Pedro in MAN OF LA MANCHA at Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre (UFOMT); he also debuted as Nick Shadow in THE RAKE’S PROGRESS and Commendatore in DON GIOVANNI at Florida State University, and reprised his role as J.P. Morgan in Phil Kline’s TESLA at the Opera America New Works Festival. That year, he also joined acclaimed American mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe in a concert of Tin Pan Alley songs at Florida State University.
    
    He has previously appeared as Lodovico in OTELLO, Marquis in LA TRAVIATA, and Fouquier Tinville in ANDRÉA CHENIER (Nashville Opera); J.P. Morgan/Thomas Edison/George Westinghouse in Phil Kline’s TESLA (American Opera Projects); Jailer in TOSCA (Opera Naples); Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. PINAFORE (Opera New Jersey); Page in AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS (Nashville Philharmonic); and the bass soloist in the Duruflé REQUIEM (Nashville Symphony) and Fauré REQUIEM. His repertoire also includes several roles he previously covered: Angelotti in TOSCA (Opera Naples); Colline in LA BOHÈME, Don Quixote in MAN OF LA MANCHA, Jud Fry in OKLAHOMA!, and Dr. Engel in THE STUDENT PRINCE (UFOMT); King Morpheus in J.D. McClatchy’s LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND, and Usher in RIGOLETTO (Sarasota Opera).
